- DEVELOPMENT KEY TOPICS
- Millenium Development Goals (MDGs)
- There will be a review on progress made towards the MDGs at a conference held in New York on 20-22 September 2010, whereby one of the issues discussed will be on setting development targets with clear indicators.
- It will also be an opportunity to take stock of what has already been done and the progress needed on specific targets to ensure that objectives will be met.
- Debate on financing for development of MDGs
- The Belgian Ministry feels that there is currently not enough being done on this issue and has therefore planned an internal EU debate to discuss what more can be done to help reach the targets. The aim of the debate is to come up with suggestions for additional measures and instruments.
- Aid effectiveness agenda
- This agenda was determined in Paris in 2005. Since then an agenda for action has been adopted in Ghana and there will be a review taking place in 2011. In order to continue the work already done, the Belgian Presidency would like to work on providing more and better budget support to the countries involved.
- Others:
- Funding for developing countries
- Provide mechanisms that will help “fragile” / post conflict countries to better use funding opportunities (as they do not have appropriate funding mechanisms)
